The Society for Philanthropy TM
helping donors and charities realize dreams

Thank you for visiting the website for the Society for Philanthropy. Recently, we have been working in government relations and advocacy on issues that protect the rights and interests of donors.

The 2006 Pension Protection Act included a number of provisions that help donors. The most significant benefit is the IRA Rollover which allows donors 70½ and older to contribute $100,000 from an IRA account. There are also a number of provisions in the bill which protect the interests of donors, especially with respect to donor advised funds.

The Public Good IRA Rollover Act of 2007 was introduced in Congress in March. It would make the IRA Rollover permanent, remove the $100,000 annual limit on donations, and provide IRA owners with a planned giving option at age 59½ or older.

The Society for Philanthropy helps donors establish mutually beneficial relationships with charities. Future programs will include forums and lectures for donors on philanthropic methods and issues.

We are in the process of building our constituencies and resources so that we will be effective in donor education and communications. If you would like to know more about the Society for Philanthropy, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Bruce Makous
